One of the things I noticed is that, this version goes back and forth on the storyline and we start in the middle.
Jo's in New York and wants to publish stories to earn some more money to send home for Beth's health. Then we get thrown back at the beginning of the story, where our heroin and her sisters are younger, but they all know well what they want in life, and we meet Laurie, and orphaned boy that lives with his grandfather across the street from the March family, and he becomes almost immediately friends with the girls, specially Jo.
The story is basically the same, but each time it gets re-made there's something more, or it just gets made better.
One of the things that I loved is that Greta Gerwig wrote the dialogs so that the sisters conversations overlap each other, like it happens in real life, like when my sister, my cousins and me get together.
A differenza degli altri film, questo fa avanti e indietro nel tempo, e ci fa partire a metà della storia.
Jo è a NY e vuole pubblicare le sue storie per guadagnare qualcosa in più da mandare a casa a Marmie per le cure di Beth. Veniamo poi catapultati all’inizio della storia, dove la nostra eroina e le sue sorelle sono molto giovani, ma sanno già bene cosa vogliono dalla vita, e conosciamo Laurie, un orfano, nipote del signore burbero che vive nella casa di fronte, che diventa subito amico delle sorelle Marc, soprattutto di Jo.
La storia, poi, è la stessa, ma ogni volta che viene rifatto, c’è sempre qualcosa in più, o viene rifatto meglio.
Una delle cose che ho amato è che Greta Gerwig ha scritto i dialoghi in modo che le conversazioni delle sorelle si sovrapponessero, come succede nella realtà , come quando ci ritroviamo io, mia sorella e le mie cugine.
The actors were cast exceptionally: Meg is played by Emma Watson, and for me she's always a garancy; Jo is the amazing Saoirse Ronan; Amy is Florence Pugh, whom I still didn't know, but I was pleasantly surprised, and Beth is Eliza Scanlen, known for the role of Amma in Sharp Objects, with Amy Adams. As for Marmie an other well known name, which is Laura Dern; the impossible Aunt March is the myth, the legend, Meryl Streep, while for Laurie we had the amazingly talented Timothée Scalamet.
Il cast è stato davvero scelto in modo eccezionale: Meg è interpretata da Emma Watson, che per me è sempre una garanzia; Jo è la fantastica Saoirse Ronan; Amy è Florence Pugh, che ancora non conoscevo, ma che mi ha lasciata piacevolmente sorpresa, e Beth è Eliza Scanlen, già conosciuta nel ruolo di Amma in Sharp Objects con Amy Adams. Per Marmie abbiamo un nome molto conosciuto, Laura Dern; come zia March il mito, la leggenda, Meryl Streep, mentre il bravissimo Timothée Scalamet ha interpretato Laurie.
Of course, my favorite character has and always will be Jo, in which I find some aspect of myself, except for her confidence in facing some things in life and her knowledge of what she wants to do in her future, which is the writer. Every time I think about the attic where she writes I always think about how I would have furnished it, because I've always love the idea of that space.
Ovviamente il mio personaggio preferito è e sarà sempre Jo, nella quale mi ci ritrovo per molte cose, tranne che per la confidenza con la quale affronta certe cose e la consapevolezza di quello che vuole fare in futuro, ovvero la scrittrice. Ogni volta che penso all’attico dove scrive mi immagino come l'avrei arredato io, perchè ho sempre amato l’idea di quello spazio.
Of course I could stay here and talk about the interpretation and representation of each character, but I'd love to stop and talk about Amy.
Amy will always be the shallow sister, fixated on her nose and her passion for art and beautiful things, but in this representation I went back on my thoughts of her.
She knows she's shallow, and she's not ashamed that she's always thought of marrying rich, also because, like Aunt March told her, she's her family's only hope to not get even poorer. But this a thoughtful Amy, aware and, even if I've always hated her for "stealing" Jo the trip in Europe (when I read this passage I cried more that the passage of Jo turning down Laurie or Beth's death) I was happy to see her so much more aware and conscientious.
One of the things my sister complained about was that Laurie's proposal, as described in the book, was not there. But thinking about it, I don't think that it was ever in any of the movies. If your remember it comment below.
Potrei stare qui a parlare dell’interpretazione e rappresentazione di ogni personaggio, ma io vorrei soffermarmi su Amy.
Amy sarà sempre la sorella frivola, con la fissazione per il suo naso e la sua passione per l’arte e le cose belle, ma in questa rappresentazione mi sono ricreduta per alcune cose. Amy sa perfettamente che è superficiale, e non si vergogna dell’aver sempre pensato che si sarebbe sposata con un uomo ricco, anche perchè, come dice zia March, è l’unica speranza per la sua famiglia per non diventare ancora piú poveri. È una Amy coscienziosa, consapevole e, anche se l’ho sempre odiata per aver “rubato” il viaggio in Europa a Jo (ho pianto di piú in quel passaggio che quando Jo ha detto di no a Laurie o quando Beth è morta), in questo film sono stata felice di averla vista consapevole e coscienziosa.
E una cosa della quale si è lamentata mia sorella, e che in effetti non è presente in nessun film di Piccole Donne, è la mancanza della proposta di matrimonio di Laurie cosi come rappresentata nei libri. Per me non era una cosa importante, ma in effetti non si è mai vista in nessuno dei film. Se ve la ricordate in qualche versione scrivete nei commenti.
What I realized, already after I watched Lady Bird is this: Greta Gerwig is a garanty. Her movies make women shine, they show you every single emotion felt and you can easily step into the characters shoes, and you be certain you can find bits of yourself in them.
I was really happy when I heard the movie got many acknowledgments and got 6 Academy Awards nominations, a couple of them are Best Actress for Saoirse Ronan and Best Supporting Actress for Florence Pugh, even if, unfortunately, there's no nominations as Best Director for Greta. Let's hope they'll win something.
Anyway, should I rate this, I'd give it a 4/5. Definitely worth it.

Una cosa l'ho capita, già dopo aver visto Lady Bird: Greta Gerwig è una garanzia. I suoi sono film che mettono in risalto le donne, ti fanno vedere ogni singola emozione provata e ti fanno facilmente entrare nei panni delle protagoniste, nelle quali puoi stare certa di ritrovare qualcosa di te.
Sono molto contenta soprattutto perchè il film ha ricevuto molti riconoscimenti ed è candidato a 6 premi Oscar, tra i quali Miglior Attrice Protagonista per Saoirse Ronan e Miglior Attrice Non Protagonista per Florence Pugh, anche se purtroppo non c'è la candidatura a Miglior Regista. Speriamo che vincano qualcosa a questi Academy Awards.
Se dovessi dare un voto gli dare 4/5. Assolutamente consigliato.
