In the past years I've tried more and more to be more eco friendly, but still many don't really know where to start, so today I want to share with you some tips on how to be more eco friendly, without being zero waste.
Negli ultimi anni ho cercato sempre più di essere più eco friendly, ma ci sono ancora molte persone persone che non sanno ancora da che parte iniziare, allora oggi voglio condividere con voi alcuni
tips per cercare di essere più eco friendly, senza essere zero waste.
FABRIC SHOPPERS
Always bring fabric shoppers with you in your bag, when you go grocery shopping or shopping for pleasure. Start saying NO to shop assistant who want to give you plastic bags. Sometimes even I forget it, but if I can manage to get a paper bag instead of a plastic one, at least I can recycle it.
Cercate di portare con voi sempre delle shopper in stoffa, sia che andiate a fare la spesa che andiate a fare shopping. Iniziate a dire NO ai commessi che vogliono darvi le borse in plastica. Capita che mi dimentichi, ma se riesco ad avere borse di carta almeno riesco a riciclarle.
BRING YOUR OWN CUTLERY...
This is something I haven't learned yet, but if go to buy the bread or window shopping, it's something to put in your bag. And I'd like to make a bigger cutlery pouch, and maybe get bamboo cutlery, like these, because they're beautiful and once the break you can compost them. An other thing to always carry with you are reusable straws, I got these ones months ago and I'm loving them, even if I'd liked them a bit bigger, but they're fine like these. I'm going to carry them with me on vacation, because I'll be with my nephews and sooner rather than later they'll want to something that will have to be drunk with a straw.
E' una cosa che non ho ancora imparato a fare, ma che andiate solo a comprare il pane o a fare un giro in centro, è una cosa da mettere in borsa. E vorrei fare una bustina più grande, e magari prendere le posate in bamboo, come queste, perchè sono bellissime e perchè se si rompono le posso compostare. Un'altra cosa da portare sempre dietro sono le cannucce riutilizzabili, io ho acquistato queste mesi fa e mi trovo molto bene, anche se le avrei preferite con il buco leggermente più grosso, ma vanno bene anche così. Infatti le porterò via in vacanza perchè sarò con i miei nipoti e prima o poi vorranno qualcosa che sarà da bere con la cannuccia.
STOP BUYING PLASTIC BOTTLES
This is something I can't get into my parents' heads, they still buy plastic bottled water, but I have Brita carafe and my sister bought it when she married 13 years ago and it's still goign strong, so know that if you're still in doubt over buying it or not! And I've just got compatible cartridges, not originals, but they work just as well, and cost much less. I also talked about about the reusable CHILLY'S bottle and I'm carrying it everywhere. I still haven't asked in bars to fill it up, but I guess there's no problem if you ask to fill it from the tap. At the moment I have only filled it at home and with fountains. And my nephews love to drink from it, even if it's pink. :-D
Questa è una cosa che purtroppo non riesco a far entrare in testa ai miei, che continuano a comprare l'acqua in bottiglia di plastica, ma io ho la Brita, e mia sorella l'ha comprata 13 anni fa quando si è sposata, quindi se siete ancora dubbiosi, sappiate che funziona ancora benissimo! Oltretutto, ho appena acquistato dei filtri compatibili con la mia caraffa, non originali, ma fanno lo stesso lavoro, e costano molto meno. Poi vi avevo parlato della bottiglia riutilizzabile CHILLY'S e la sto davvero portando ovunque. Non ho ancora chiesto di riempirla in bar, l'ho solo riempita nelle fontane, ma immagino che non ci sia nessun problema se chiedi di riempila dai rubinetti dei locali. In più ai bambini piace un sacco, anche se è rosa. :-D
REUSABLE BATTERIES
I bought a couple of years ago the reusable batteries, but since I haven't had them with me and I forgot I had them. Now that I have them back with me, I'm waiting to use up all the single use ones, bring them to recycle and then start using those ones. My charger is a old model I think, but here you can find the most recent, and the beauty of it is that now so many brands are making them. The other day I was at Ikea an noticed the most beautiful batteries charger station I've ever seen, it's a book!
Qualche anno fa ho preso le batterie ricaricabili, ma erano rimaste da mia mamma e me ne ero dimenticata. Ora che le ho recuperate, sto aspettando di terminare di usare le pile usa e getta e di portarle in centri di raccolta e iniziare ad usare le mie. Il mio carica batterie credo sia un modello vecchio, ma qui potete trovare la più recente, ma la cosa bella è che ormai tanti brand le fanno. L'altro giorno ero all'Ikea e ho notato per la prima volta la più bella stazione carica batterie del mondo, è un libro!
TURN OFF YOUR DEVICES
Well, this is seems an easy one, but since there are so many power strips with a switch on/off button, now it's even easier. I'm not saying I remember to do it everytime I get out, but when I know I'm not home for a couple of day I'm switching them all off. An harder one can be taking the phone off the charger once fully charged, mostly because the majority of us charge it when we go to bed, but remember to do the same with your laptop, always turn off the tv, even if the flat iron is off, when it's still in the electric socket it consumes energy. And ALWAYS turn off the lights when you exit a room!
Beh, questa sembra una facile, ma ora che si sono tutte queste ciabatte elettriche con il pulsante per spegnerle è ancora più facile. Non dico che io mi ricordi ogni volta che esco di spegnerle tutte, ma se sono sicura di non essere a casa per qualche giorno le spegno tutte! CLOSE THE WATER
A thing I learned as an adult is to always turn the water off when brushing the teeth or showering or cleaning the dishes. It's a bit harder to remind to do it when showering, but I'm getting better at doing it.
Una cosa che ho imparato da adulta è di chiudere sempre l'acqua quando ci si lava i denti e corpo o quando si lavano i piatti. E' un pò più difficile per me ricordarmene quando mi faccio la doccia, ma sto migliorando.
WALK & BUS
Living outside Turin, where there's everything, and to go to the supermarket and to Ikea (one of the most important!) and to go to my sister, taking the car is a must. But when I have to go somewhere in my town I often walk, instead of taking the car, and to go to Turin I always get the bus or the metro. The transport system is not the best and there always so much time to wait, but I'm too scared to drive downtown, I've never done and don't think I'll ever will, so bus it is. I don't mind too much, it's a lot more time to read!
Abitando fuori Torino, dove c'è tutto, e per andare al supermercato e all'Ikea (uno dei luoghi più importanti) e per andare a trovare mia sorella, avere la macchina è importantissimo. Per andare in giro per la mia città cerco di andare spesso a piedi, invece che prendere la macchina, e per andare a Torino uso per lo più bus e metro. Il sistema di trasporti non è sempre il migliore con i tempi di attesa molto lunghi, ma sono terrorizzata dall'andare in macchina in centro, non l'ho mai fatto e non lo farò mai, quindi che bus sia. A dire la verità non mi dispiace troppo, c'è molto più tempo per leggere!
THINK BEFORE BUYING
This is one of the first things you learn when you actually can't buy everything you see, but it's a good training for better times. We don't really need that shirt just because it has a cute design on it. Now, I might NEED to get something, but if I already have some similar things...DO I REALLY NEED IT? I know it can be hard to resist, also because we have so many influencers that we want to buy everything they have, but it's not really necessary. I might fall back on it, but we all need, me above all, thinking again before buying!
Questa è una delle prime cose che si imparano quando non puoi comprare qualsiasi cosa cosa tu veda, ma è di sicuro un bel allenamento per tempi migliori. Non abbiamo davvero bisogno di quella specifica maglietta con un disegno carino. Ora, potrei aver bisogno di prendere qualcosa perchè siamo senza, ma se abbiamo già qualcosa di simile...NE HO DAVVERO BISOGNO? So che è difficile resistere, anche perchè ci sono così tanti influencers che pubblicizzano un sacco di cose che vorremmo anche noi, ma non è davvero necessario. Possiamo ricaderci ogni tanti, ma dobbiamo tutti, io per prima, pensare prima di comprare!

BUY SECOND HAND
Buying second hand or thrifted is a new thing to me. That's to say that I've never tried it with strangers and thrift shops here sucks, but I've collected quite a few things over the years from my sister, and vice versa. But I have too some things that I'm not using anymore, that probably have only been used once, and I feel leaving it there, so I uploaded some things over on my DEPOP. Mostly books and dvd, and I ship only in Italy, but it's stuff well kept, and if it's a bit ruined I'm very honest about it, I even show the picture of the damage. Comprare di seconda mano o ai mercatini è una cosa nuova per me. Non ho mai acquistato niente da usato da estranei, tranne che libri, e i negozi dell'usato qui fanno schifo, ma ho recuperato delle cose nel corso dagli anni da mia sorella e viceversa. Ma se ci sono cose che sono già che non fanno per lei, che magari ho usato solo una volta, le carico sul mio negozio DEPOP. Sono per lo più libri e dvd, e spedisco solo in Italia, ma è tutta roba ben tenuta e se invece ci sono dei difetti, metto anche la foto della parte rovinata Venite a vedere, e se non siete in Italia e vi interessa qualcosa scrivetemi così posso controllare i costi della spedizione fuori Italia.😉

DITCH THE PAPER TOWELS
For my apartment I think I bought only two/three rolls, and then I stopped using them. I have the dishtowels to use, so I haven't seen the need anymore. I've also seen some DIYs, like this one from A Beautiful Mess to create non paper towels but recently I've been eyeing these bamboo rolls, they might cost a bit at first, but if you think of the infinite use you can make of each towel, you wash it after the use and use it all over again and again.
Credo di avere comprato solo due/tre rotoli di carta, e poi ho smesso di usarli. Uso gli asciugapiatti, così non ne vedo più la necessità . Ho anche trovato dei DIYs, come questo di A Beautiful Mess per creare dei rotoli di stoffa ma recentemente ho anche adocchiato ed aggiunto alla mia wishlist questi rotoli in bamboo, che costano un pochino all'inizio, ma con i migliaia di utilizzi che ne vengono fatti di sicuro rientrate della spesa..
FIX A FIXER UPPER
When I danced going to the cobbler was at least a monthly trip we made, because dance shoes are quite expensive and repairing them was essential. It's still an important thing. Before throwing away a pair of shoes or a pair of jeans there are so many repairs, just because if you can still use the item, there really is no need to dispose of it.
Quando ballavo andare dal calzolaio era un viaggio mensile, perchè le scarpe da ballo sono care e ripararle era essenziale. E' ancora molto importante. Prima di buttare un paio di scarpe o un paio di jeans ci sono tante riparazioni che possono essere fatte, anche perchè se è un oggetto che potete riutilizzare non c'è bisogno di buttarlo e prenderne uno nuovo.
Now I want to say that I'm not perfect and I make a lot of mistakes and there are still so many changes I want to make and will make, but I will occasionally buy something new, but I hope I gave you some inspiration to try and start doing at least one of the things I talked to you about.
