La settimana scorsa è stato il compleanno di mio cognato e ho pensato di fargli un regalo speciale.
Lui ama la birra. Dopo aver messo a letto i bambini lui e mia sorella si aprono una (o due) birre, mentre guardano Netflix, ogni sera.
Last week was my brother in law's birthday and I thought I'd make him a special gift.
He loves beer. After the kids have gone to bed he'll open a beer (or two) with my sister, watching something on Netflix, like every night.
Quando ho visto questo DIY su Nifty ho subito pensato di volerlo fare.
Ecco quello che vi servirà : un pezzo di legno (il mio era 30x9 cm), un impregnante di vostra scelta, *apri bottiglie da muro, delle calamite potenti (io ho usato *queste qui), *colla molto forte e degli utensili elettrici per lavorare il legno.

Ecco quello che vi servirà : un pezzo di legno (il mio era 30x9 cm), un impregnante di vostra scelta, *apri bottiglie da muro, delle calamite potenti (io ho usato *queste qui), *colla molto forte e degli utensili elettrici per lavorare il legno.
I saw this DIY on Nifty and I knew straight away I wanted to make it.
So here's what you'll need to make it: a piece of wood (mine was 30cmx9cm), some stain of your choosing, *wall bottle opener, a couple of strong magnets (I used *these ones), *strong glue and some power tools to work the wood.
First of all, I cut my piece of wood. I had some leftover from other projects of a couple of years ago, and when I say "I" I mean that I had help because I never used power tools so that's that.
Anyhow, once the piece was cut, I sanded it on all sides, but mostly to the sides that where cut, to make it all smooth and with no sharp angles.
Dopodichè, ho fatto i buchi per le calamite, abbastanza profondi perchè entrassero bene, perchè l'apribottiglie deve rimanere piatto contro il muro e di certo non volevo che sembrasse che ci fossero delle gobbe. Una volta che i buchi erano abbastanza grandi, ho incollato le calamite con una colla forte. Ho poi deciso dove piazzare l'apribottiglie e ho fatto i buchi nel punto scelto, in modo da avvitarlo una volta finito.
After that, I cut the holes for the magnets, deep enough to fit the magnet really good because the bottle opener will have to be flat against the wall and we don't want it to feel bumpy against it.
Once the holes for the magnets are deep enough, use some super strong glue to glue them in place.
Then I decided where to put the bottle opener and made the holes that would hold it, to screw it back once it was all done.
Una volta fatto, usate del nastro carta per coprire le calamite e iniziate ad impregnare il legno. Dovete scuotere per bene la latta prima di aprirlo, e poi con il mio amato pennello, ho iniziato. E ora capisco perchè le Sorry Girls amano lavorare con il legno. Dà una certa soddisfazione.
Ho trovato un modo per impregnarlo senza dover aspettare che si asciughi un lato. Ho fatto un paio di mani, e l'ho lasciato asciugare per tutta la notte, solo per sicurezza, ma potete anche aspettare un paio di ore, dovrebbe andare bene. Leggetta sulla latta.
Once done, use some paper tape to cover the magnets and start staining the wood. You have to shake it well before opening it, and then with my trusty brush, I started staining. And now I know why The Sorry Girls love using wood so much. It is oddly satisfying.
I found a way to stain it all without having to wait for one side to dry. I did a couple of coats, and let it dry overnight, just to be sure, but you can wait a couple of hours, it should be fine. Read it on the tin.
Una volta asciutto l'ho carteggiato ancora un pò, per far venire fuori le venature del legno, e ho dato ancora una mano di impregnate. Una volta completato, togliete il nastro carta dalle calamite, avvitate l'apribottiglie ed è fatto.
E' un regalo perfetto per gli amanti della birra nella vostra vita. Ovviamente lo potete personalizzare come preferite, cambiare colore, scrivere qualcosa, farci dei disegni, quello che volete. Volevo scrivere qualcosa di carino, ma alla fine ho deciso di tenerlo minimale.

Here's a perfect gift for whatever beer lover is in your life. Of course, you can customize it as you want, you can change colour, write stuff on it, make drawings, anything you want. I wanted to write something funny but in the end, I decided to keep it minimal.
